Many of the same colors popular for kitchens of the past remain popular: blue, yellow, green, red and white. Another contemporary addition is orange. In modern kitchens, the emphasis is less on a color change than on a different shade or on how designers use a particular color.
For instance, switch a soft yellow for a bright one or a light blue for a navy or cobalt shade. Bold colors work well in modern kitchens, especially if darker shades are offset with lighter ones in other parts of the room. Instead of only focusing on wall color, experiment with these bold shades on cabinets. To avoid adding too much color, use bold colors, such as a red or orange, for accent hues in table linen or displayed china pieces.
