Minwax is a kind of coating for hardwood floors for both commercial and do-it-yourself use. The Minwax Company offers various stains, preparation products, specialty finishes and protective finishes. Other available products from Minwax include hardwood floor maintenance products and brushes.
The Minwax Company was founded in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1904 by Arthur B. Harrison. Harrison worked on developing a waterproofing substance for floors and persuaded his employer at Clifford I. Miller, a plaster company, to help him get started. Harrison purchased Miller's interests in the company in 1910, and then the company officially became known as Minwax. The Minwax Company is headquartered in Upper Saddle River, N.J., as of 2014.
