Twenty-seven Maytag dishwasher models are Energy Star-certified as energy-efficient as of 2015. Certification is conducted by third-party laboratories approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. Maytag also manufactures dishwasher models that are not Energy Star-certified.
In addition to laboratory testing prior to certification, products with the Energy Star label are subject to annual off-the-shelf testing to ensure they meet energy efficiency standards throughout the manufacturing life cycle.
Under EPA regulations, the efficiency standards for Energy Star certification have become increasingly stringent since the introduction of the program in 1992. In addition to dishwashers, products in more than 65 categories, from computers to light bulbs, can receive Energy Star certification.
