Maytag, a subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation, manufactures refrigerators at its Amana, Iowa manufacturing plant. In 2001, the Maytag Corporation purchased the household appliance brand Amana and its Iowa-based manufacturing plant. The Amana manufacturing plant quickly became Maytag's primary facility for refrigerator production.
Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006, integrating product lines and closing several Maytag facilities. For Maytag refrigerator products, the brand name remained the same and production continued at the Amana facility. Today, the 2 million-square-foot facility employs nearly 2,000 employees. One of Maytag's staple products is its refrigerator with a bottom-freezer configuration. This unique design provides an energy-efficient product that meets or exceeds Energy Star standards.
