Inglis home appliances are manufactured by Whirlpool Canada. The Whirlpool Corporation acquired a majority stake in Inglis in 1987 and changed the name of the company to Whirlpool Canada. Despite this, its products continue to carry the Inglis name.
Inglis home appliances began in 1859 when John Inglis opened a machine shop in Ontario with two friends to produce machinery for mills. Inglis died in 1898 and passed the business on to one of his sons. The company manufactured its first wringer washer in 1946 and its first automatic washer four years later. By 1972, one million automatic washers were produced.
