As the name suggests, William Coffin Coleman started the company in 1900 in Oklahoma, United States. Two years later, he shifted the company headquarters to Kansas, where it remains as of 2015. Apart from furnaces, the company also produces domestic irons, small boats, tents, generators, sleeping bags, backpacks, hot tubs, coolers and cooking stoves, among other items. One of the most notable products from the company is the Coleman Lantern pressure lamp that uses white gas to produce bright white light.

Evcon is a separate company, named Coleman Heating and Air Conditioning. It builds furnaces and air conditioners under license from the original company. Apart from the Evcon brand name, the company also makes furnaces and light commercial and residential air conditioners under the LX, Echelon and Comfortee brands.

Evcon furnaces carry a 10-year warranty on replaceable parts as well as compressors. One has to register the product online in the first 90 days after installation. If a customer fails to do so, the warranty slips back to five years on limited parts.
