Make your own plastic patio furniture covers by selecting appropriate fabric, creating a pattern, cutting the fabric to the shape of the pattern, and then sewing or gluing the seams together. Grommets can be added to attach bungee cords to attach the covers to the furniture.
Select fabric rated for outdoor use. Waterproof polyvinyl chloride is a good choice, as it allows air circulation to prevent mold. PVC fabric is available in a wide range of colors. Select a neutral color to draw attention away from the furniture or a bright cheerful color to brighten the winter landscape.
Measure your furniture and create your pattern. Instructions for pattern making are available at DoItYouself.com. Be sure to leave seam allowances. Once the pattern is ready, lay it over the back of the fabric, and trace it with a wax pencil. Cut along the lines.
Using straight pins, pin the seams together on the back side of the fabric. Check to be sure the covers fit the furniture before proceeding. Make any adjustments necessary and pin again.
Using weatherproof thread or nylon fishing lines, sew the seams. If sewing isn't an option, glue the seams with a strong, weather-resistant glue. Use piping to reinforce the seams if necessary. Add grommets along the seams to attach bungee cords to secure to the covers to the furniture.
