To make car wash soap, fill a bucket with warm water, add powdered dish detergent, powdered laundry detergent and borax to the water, and mix. The detergents effectively clean the vehicle, and the borax minimizes the appearance of residue and streaks. Making the soap takes just a few minutes.
- Fill a bucket with warm water
Find a sturdy 3-gallon bucket and add warm water to it until it's about 3/4 full.
- Add powdered dish detergent
Add 1 cup of powdered dish detergent to the water. Use a standard dish detergent or a vegetable-based or chlorine-free detergent, if you want an eco-friendly car wash soap.
- Add powdered laundry detergent
Add 12 tablespoons of powdered laundry detergent to the water. Again, choose an eco-friendly or standard detergent.
- Add borax to the water
Sprinkle a small amount of borax into the water. Adding borax is optional but helps to eliminate soap residue that's often not noticeable until after the cleaning process.
- Mix the solution
Use a wooden stick or any sturdy, long item to thoroughly mix the solution. Make sure the detergents and borax completely dissolve before washing your vehicle. Rinse the vehicle thoroughly before washing it with this solution to prevent streaking.
