To make your jeans lighter, soak them in a bleach solution for a few minutes. However, be careful not to oversoak the jeans so you don't end up with unintended color. Rinse the jeans in the washing machine without fabric softener or detergent, and let them air dry.
- Mix the ingredients
Wear protective clothing, and protect the washing area from bleach spills by laying newspapers on the floor. Pour equal parts of water and bleach into a basin, and mix them to form a uniform solution. Be sure to avoid a highly concentrated solution so you don't corrode your jeans.
- Soak the jeans
Wear rubber gloves, and immerse the jeans in the solution. Make sure the surface of the jeans is evenly in contact with the solution to avoid causing fold marks. Let the garment sit in the bleach, and check it periodically to assess progress. Once you are satisfied with the results, remove the jeans from the solution, and wring out the excess solution.
- Rinse and dry the jeans
Put the jeans in the washing machine, and run the wash cycle twice to rinse out the bleach. Don't use detergent or fabric softeners, since they can cause yellowing. Finally, air dry the jeans.
