Homemade dishwasher detergent without Borax is easy to make with a few simple ingredients. Use Lemi-Shine or citric acid, Super Washing Soda, baking soda and sea salt. You also need a large bowl, mason jars and a spoon.
- Gather your materials
Gather your materials, and place them on your work surface.
- Combine your ingredients
Pour 1 1/2 cups of Lemi-Shine or citric acid into your bowl. Add 1 1/2 cups of Super Washing Soda, 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of sea salt to the bowl. Stir the ingredients to combine them thoroughly.
- Store the detergent in mason jars
Pour the detergent into mason jars. Close the lids tightly.
- Avoid clumps
This homemade detergent can clump over time. Avoid clumps by pouring dry rice into a baby's sock. Knot the top of the sock, and place a rice sock in each container of homemade dishwasher detergent. Avoid clumps further by storing the jars in a cool, dark cupboard that is free of moisture.
- Wash your dishes
Load your dishwasher. Add 1 tablespoon of detergent per load. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the detergent before starting the machine's cycle for a fresh smell. Unload the dishwasher, and put your dishes away.
