To make homemade carpet cleaner, mix dish washing liquid, vinegar, water and baking soda in a spray bottle. Non-acetone nail polish remover can also take care of stubborn stains.
Store-bought carpet cleaners can be fairly pricey, and they may not be readily available when mud or dirt comes into contact with carpets. To make a homemade carpet cleaner, run through the following steps.
- Blend the soap, vinegar and water in a bottle
- Add baking soda
Pour 1 teaspoon of dish washing liquid, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 cup of warm water into a spray bottle.
Carefully add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the bottle. Baking soda and vinegar blended together causes the mixture to fizz, so it may be helpful to work over a sink. Add the lid to the bottle.
To use the homemade carpet cleaner, vacuum up any dirt or debris and spray the mixture directly on the carpet. Wipe up the cleaner with a clean towel. The mixture also makes an effective cleaner for drapes and upholstered furniture.
For very stubborn stains, solvents can serve as effective home remedies. Carefully pour some non-acetone nail polish or oil solvent into a spray bottle. Spray the solvent directly on the stain and scrub it with a clean cloth.
