To make or decorate tile coasters, affix squares of patterned paper with decoupage medium, and seal with a waterproof acrylic sealant. To prevent the tiles from scratching a table, add cork or felt to the bottom of each tile.
- Clean the tiles
Wipe the tiles with rubbing alcohol to remove any residue. The tiles may have rough edges, so sand them if desired.
- Cut and paste the paper
For each tile, cut a square of paper that is 1/4 inch smaller than the tile. Working on one tile at a time, brush a tile with a decoupage medium, such as Mod Podge, or make your own with one part white glue to one part water. Center the paper on the tile, and press out any air bubbles. Let the tile dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Using a sponge brush to avoid visible brushstrokes, brush on another layer of decoupage glue. Let this layer dry for 15 to 20 minutes, and then apply another layer of decoupage medium.
- Seal the tile
Let the decoupage glue cure for 24 hours. Once dry, apply a waterproof acrylic sealer. Allow the sealant to cure according to the manufacturer's directions.
- Add a backing
Cut felt or rolled cork squares the same size as a tile. Affix the backing with a heavy duty glue, and let dry.
