To maintain a Keruig coffee maker, keep the exterior of the coffee maker clean by wiping it with a damp cloth, and descale and clean the interior of the coffee pot every three to six months. Disassemble and wash the removable parts of the coffee maker on a regular schedule or as needed when tea of coffee granules are present. To retain the flavor of coffee and other beverages, remove the K-cup immediately after brewing the beverage.
To descale a Keurig coffee maker, unplug the machine, and remove the mug stand, water reservoir, lid and K-cup holder. Wash the removable items in soapy water, rinse each piece with clean water, and place the pieces back on the coffee maker. Plug the machine in, and add equal amounts of water and white vinegar to the water reservoir.
After filling the reservoir with water and vinegar, turn the machine on, and allow the machine to brew until the reservoir empties. Fill the machine with plain water, and repeat the brewing process until the reservoir empties. Do not add a K-cup when descaling the machine. To prevent buildup, use spring or bottled water to make beverages, and use a straw to force air through the machine if tea or coffee particles block the water lines.
