Paint lasts for many years, but exactly how many years depends on several factors such as the type of paint and how it is stored. Paint can be used for up to 10 to 15 years after purchase if it is a good-quality paint, is unopened and is stored properly.
Oil paint lasts about five years longer than latex paint, and paint must be stored where it cannot freeze. Temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit are ideal. Even an opened can of paint can be used for up to two years if it has been sealed well and stored at the right temperature. If the paint is contaminated with debris or bacteria, it may form chunks or lumps and should be discarded.
