If well cared for, orchids can live for centuries. The blooms themselves may last anywhere between a week up to four months, depending on the species. There are some divisions of orchids discovered in the 19th century that are still growing today.
Water an orchid once a week, and put it in an ideal location for its lighting condition and temperature needs, such as an east or north-facing windowsill. There are approximately 20,000 species of orchids, some with blooms no larger than a mosquito, and others with blooms the size of a dinner plate. Some orchids have very strong scents, while others are completely odorless.
