As of 2015, DuPont has been making Corian countertops for over 45 years. The original material, a registered trademark of Dupont, was first sold to the public in 1971 as a kitchen and bath surface.
DuPont scientists developed the solid surface countertop material in 1967, and the patent was issued in 1968 to DuPont chemist Dr. Donald Slocum. Since then, the Corian line has grown to include more than 100 colors, multiple collections including a Martha Stewart line and a variety of thicknesses. In 2014, DuPont showcased Corian 2.0 with DeepColor technology featuring darker, richer colors that are more scratch-resistant.
