Hydroseeding costs less than sod, uses less water and eliminates the problem of sod not taking. Before applying hydroseed the lawn should be prepped by removing any excess grass and weeds, tilled to loosen the soil, ph tested and corrected, if necessary, and regraded as appropriate. After application, the lawn will need to be watered daily for about two weeks. After two weeks, regular lawn maintenance will be sufficient. Hydroseed was once available only through commercial contractors, but recently a DIY product was introduced. Hydro Mousse is available through many online retailers.
