A liquid deglosser, also known as liquid sandpaper, is a chemical mixture used to clean and remove the gloss from a painted surface prior to repainting. Deglossing allows new paint to adhere to the old paint and prevents it from chipping off easily.
Liquid deglosser is often used in place of sandpaper because it takes less time, is easier to use and is better suited for surfaces with intricate designs. It is applied to the surface using a clean cloth and then left to sit for the time indicated on the package. Some liquid deglossers are painted over when wet, while others are allowed to dry before being painted over.
