Make sure to have all tools and parts needed to make the process go smoothly.
Get the tiles and prepare the room
The first step is to measure the room to determine the amount of tiles and concrete boards that are needed. Add about 10 percent extra so some of the tiles can be cut. Then completely clear the room of furniture and remove all existing flooring.
It is best to tile a floor that is completely level so the next step involves filling in hollows and dips. This is done with a self-leveling underlayment.
Install concrete boards
Tiles cannot be fixed directly onto wooden floors. Instead concrete boards must be installed to provide extra strength. These are fixed in place using adhesive, nails and screws. Seam tape should be used to cover the seams.
Lay the tiles
Mark out the center of the room and then start laying the tiles using tile adhesive. Use spacers as a guide and take care not to go out of alignment. Cut the tiles at the edges to fit. Once finished, leave to dry for 24 hours.
