Installing horizontal pathways, terraced flowerbeds or planting shrubs and trees are all effective landscaping ideas for hills and sloped terrain. When properly landscaped, hills are more resistant to erosion and may require less effort to tend and maintain.
Installing retaining walls or terracotta flower pots is an easy way to increase the landscaping options on a hillside. Switchback paths make it easier to navigate steep inclines and can reduce soil erosion. Well-positioned trees and shrubs can break up a steep expanse and limit the volume of a hill that requires mowing or tending. Stonework and other hardscape materials can create a garden-like setting.
