You can remodel your kitchen to look like an Ikea design by choosing angular cabinetry with clean lines and a variety of modern furniture, appliances and lighting fixtures. There are many companies that manufacture similar, but less expensive, cabinets and accessories, so it is easy to copy the design.
To emulate the look of Ikea's new cabinet line, Sektion, you will need to find cabinets that are simple, monochrome, and angular. Ikea tends to favor clean lines and 90 degree angles for their handles, which are often non-decorative, counter tops and even the cabinets themselves. Ikea shies away from rounded designs, as they do not appear as fresh.
Ikea cabinets usually come in white, black, neutral colors and wooden patterns (though not solid wood, as they are made from particle boards). The wooden patterns tend to overwhelmingly feature horizontal grains, and they are “stained” in many different hues. Usually the handles, cabinet doors, drawers and counter tops are one solid color, or made from one shade of wood. Sometimes designers mix two contrasting cabinet colors for the tops and bottoms.
To add to the European contemporary feel, be sure to add a lot of plain shelving in and around your cabinets. You can either have your shelves stand alone among your cabinets, or you can have them arranged behind doors with grid windows. These doors look especially fabulous when they are mounted above the counter tops. You can also attempt to create shelving on the interior of your cabinets and drawers. Ikea arranges dividers in such a way that you can store anything from food to wine to dishes pretty much anywhere in their cupboards.
