Maytag makes washers, dryers, refrigerators, cooking appliances, dishwashers, trash compactors, irons, vacuums and an assortment of accessories for its appliances. It also has a line of central heaters and air conditioners, which are manufactured by Nordyne under the Maytag name.
Maytag's appliances for laundry include traditional and high-efficiency washers and dryers in front-load and top-load models as well as washer-dryer combos and laundry pedestals. Its refrigerators include French-door, side-by-side, top-freezer and bottom-freezer models, and it also makes under-counter ice machines and beverage centers. The company makes a diverse range of cooking appliances, such as ranges, wall ovens, cooktops and microwaves, and it also manufactures range hoods to pair with its stoves and cooktops.
Whirlpool, which also makes a number of home appliances, acquired the Maytag Corporation in 2006. It quickly closed the Maytag headquarters and several manufacturing plants that produced its laundry appliances. All brand administration is now managed by Whirlpool, and the appliances that bear the Maytag name are actually designed by Whirlpool. When Whirlpool acquired Maytag, it also acquired many of the company's other appliance brands, including Magic Chef, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Gemini and Hardwick. As of February 2015, Whirlpool operates eight manufacturing plants in the United States.
