Some good paint choices for a bathroom are satin and semi-gloss, states Consumer Reports. Satin and semi-gloss paints are more resistant to bathroom conditions, such as moisture, humidity and mildew. These paint finishes are also easier to clean.
The different types of finishes are matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss and high gloss. For an area prone to staining that may require scrubbing, semi-gloss and satin paint are the most suitable because they are washable, advises Real Simple.
Depending on certain factors, however, there are some disadvantages to using these paint finishes. For example, although satin is washable, touch ups are more noticeable because there may be a difference in sheen. If a semi-gloss paint is used on bathroom walls with imperfections, then they are more detectable. Additionally, scrubbing this paint finish type does affect its sheen more so than on satin finishes, notes Consumer Report.
