A woodworking workbench is the natural construction choice when working with wood. The design of the workbench can fit a variety of historical bench designs, such as the continental bench or Ian Kirby's British workbench. Alternatively, workbenches can also be purchased commercially.
The basic function of a workbench is to serve as a workshop's largest clamping tool and generally feature heavy and sturdy designs. As of 2015, workbenches are generally used by more casual woodwork craftsmen who do not produce commercial furniture in high volumes. However, it is still possible to see commercial woodworkers utilizing a workbench in the creation of their products.
