Mosquito traps, essential oils and commercial sprays can be used to get rid of mosquitoes indoors. When using pesticides, refer to the package directions, and choose products designed specifically for indoor use.
To make a mosquito trap, cut a small hole in the side of a plastic soda bottle, and thread a piece of fabric, such as flannel, through the hole so that the fabric touches the interior bottom of the bottle. The fabric should also reach the bottom of the bottle on the outside. Pour a mixture of fruit juice and the recommended amount of spinosad insecticide inside the bottle, and allow the fabric wick to soak up the mixture. Wrap the bottle and wick with light-colored flannel fabric, and place the trap in an area that children and pets can't access.
To eliminate mosquitoes naturally, use a combination of lemon eucalyptus and other essential oils. To make a mosquito spray, mix 55 drops of lemon eucalyptus with 45 drops of cedar, rosemary or lavender essential oil. Add 2 tablespoons of witch hazel, 1/2 a tablespoon of vodka and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the essential oils, and shake the mixture well to combine. This mixture can be sprayed directly on the skin or around the home to repel mosquitoes. Commercially prepared sprays are also an option. Choose a spray that is designed to kill mosquitoes indoors, and use it according to the directions on the package.
