To kill roaches with baking soda, combine granulated or powdered sugar and baking soda in equal amounts, and spread a thin layer of the mixture in the affected areas of the home. Reapply the mixture as needed until the insects are eliminated.
Another option is to mix 45 percent baking soda, 45 percent sugar and 10 percent vitamin C powder or powdered yeast, and spread the mixture in the affected areas of the home. Alternately, combine 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1/4 cup of shortening, 1/2 cup minced onion, 1/2 cup of flour and 8 ounces of baking soda. Add enough water to make a thick dough, and roll the dough into small balls. Place the baking soda balls in the affected areas of the home.
Wash walls and other surfaces in the home with a mixture of baking soda, hot water and liquid soap to further control insect populations. In the kitchen, wash the oven hood and walls with the mixture frequently to eliminate food sources utilized by the insects.
Repeat the chosen baking soda treatments for a minimum of five months to prevent a reinfestation. To completely eliminate roaches, clean the home thoroughly to eliminate food sources, repair water leaks and remove other water sources, and seal cracks and crevices with caulk.
