Install a toilet by inserting new closet bolts in the flange. Next, affix a wax ring around the waste horn, set the toilet on the drain, tighten the bolts and attach the water supply line.
- Insert the closet bolts
If the flange has damage, install a flange repair kit. Insert the bolts into the flange, centering them at each side and parallel to the wall behind the toilet tank. Tighten the nuts on the bolts to hold them in place.
- Affix the wax ring
Invert the toilet on a rug to prevent scratches, and set the wax ring around the waste horn on the bottom of the fixture. Press it gently in place so it stays.
- Seat the toilet
Set the toilet upright, and place it over the drain, carefully aligning the closet bolts with the holes in its base. Sit on the toilet to press the wax into place. Gently tighten the nuts on the closet bolts.
- Attach the water supply line
Hand tighten the water supply connection. Use a wrench to turn the connector an additional one-quarter turn. Turn on the water, and check for leaks. Once you are certain there are no leaks, cut the closet bolts to length using a hacksaw.
