Although each window is different, install a slider casement window by measuring the opening for the window and laying down a wooden sill strip. Dry fit the window and mark the outline, and then apply a sealant around the window frame. Place the window and secure it with screws.
Although installing a window is not difficult, the process usually goes more smoothly with two people. One person can hold the window while the other measures and secures the window to the wall. Always take the necessary safety precautions when working with glass.
- Lay down a sill strip
- Dry fit the window
- Apply the sealant
- Install the window
Measure the opening for the window.
Lay down a wooden sill strip across the bottom of the window opening to provide a flat surface for the window to rest on. Make sure the strip is at least as thick as the difference between the highest point of the frame and the sill.
Dry fit the window and mark the outline. One person should hold the window while the other marks the outline.
Apply a quality sealant to the sill strip and the outside face of the window frame.
With one person holding up the window, install it by using screws with hinge covers.
When using a sealant, make sure it is silicone-based and paintable. When screwing in the window, never place screws along the top or bottom. Never over-tighten the screws as this may cause distortion.
