What Are the Ingredients in Tide Laundry Detergent?

Ingredients in Tide original liquid laundry detergent include the surfactants alcoholethoxy sulfate, linear alkylbenzene sulfonate, alcohol sulfate, sodium fatty acids, laureth-9 and alkyldimethylamine oxide, according to Procter and Gamble. Surfactants pull dirt out of fabric while preventing the gunk from reattaching.

The polymers polyethyleneimine ethoxylate and diquaternium ethoxysulfate work cooperatively with surfactants. Enzymes in detergents help proteins, starches and fats from foods to decompose. In Tide, these enzymes are protease, amylase and mannanase. Tide also contains disodium diaminostilbene disulfonate to brighten fabric and Liquitint Blue to add color to the detergent. In addition, fragrance is included.

Tide ingredients that help the washing process work better include water, propylene glycol, ethanolamine, ethanol and diethylene glycol. Sodium formate, calcium formate, polyethylene glycol 4000 and dimethicone also enhance washing. Citric acid, borax and DTPA capture soil. Sodium hydroxide neutralizes the pH level during the process.

In addition to the original Tide laundry detergent, P&G offers several variations, such as Tide Plus Bleach Alternative, Tide Pods, Tide Free & Gentle and Tide Oxi. Certain ingredients are different. For instance, Tide Free & Gentle does not use fragrance. Tide Oxi contains sodium percarbonate, an oxygen bleach, and nonanoyloxy benzene sulfonate, a bleach activator.
