Igloo coolers and refrigerators are made by the Igloo Products Corporation based in Houston, Texas. The company got its start in 1947 and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Brunswick Corporation in 1996.
Igloo's first product was an insulated metal water container designed for use in the hot Texas oil fields, a step up from the wooden buckets that most riggers used at the time. The company expanded into plastic products in the 1960s and began producing the plastic ice chests that eventually became their most recognizable product. In the mid-1990s, Igloo began developing thermoelectric coolers that could chill food and beverages without the use of cold packs or ice
