The ideal temperature for a refrigerator is between 34 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature range minimizes the growth of microorganisms and pathogens already present within the food.
To slow spoilage and prevent rapid growth of microorganisms in food, adjust the refrigerator thermostat to the proper temperature. If the refrigerator doesn't display the temperature, a refrigerator thermometer that remains inside of the appliance is a useful tool for monitoring the temperature.
Use the refrigerator thermometer to find the coldest area of the refrigerator. Store highly perishable items such as meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese and leftovers in the coldest area of the refrigerator.
