A hydroponic growing kit is a package that contains the materials needed for growing plants hydroponically, or without soil. Hydroponic growing is a horticultural method of growing plants without soil and delivering nutrients to the plant through a mineral-rich liquid solution.
In some cases, plants are grown directly in the liquid, but in most cases they are suspended in a medium such as perlite, vermiculite or coconut shell shavings. The liquid nutrients are drawn to the plants by a system of wicks, or the system may use a pump to periodically flood the plants with the feeding solution. Typical items in a hydroponic kit are the container or growing tray, the liquid nutrient solution and a medium, depending on the method used. Some kits may include a pump for delivering the nutrients, grow lights which can vary in intensity and cost, fans and special chambers for simulating darkness if plants are to bloom.
