Horsetail bamboo is a plant that looks like a cylindrical reed with joints. It is a perennial that tends to grow in wet places, such as swamps, ponds and wet ditches.
The stem is hollow and grows up to 3 feet tall. It does not grow branches. It is an attractive plant that is often used in displays. While it requires low maintenance, it helps if the dead stems are pulled out. The stems grow close together, almost symmetrical. It can be a problematic plant if it starts to spread, as it has deep roots and is hard to eliminate.
