Gold jewelry can be cleaned with a mixture of 1/2 cup of clear ammonia and 1 cup of warm water. After soaking the jewelry in the solution for 10 minutes, carefully wipe the jewelry clean with a soft cloth and set aside to dry.
Gold jewelry can be polished by covering it with a light coating of baking soda, pouring on a little vinegar and rinsing it clean. Neither of these methods should be used on gold jewelry containing pearls or other highly delicate elements.
Another home remedy to clean gold jewelry is with mild dish soap and sodium-free seltzer water or club soda. Fill a small bowl with the seltzer water or club soda and add in a few drops of mild dish soap. Place the jewelry in a small strainer, soak it in the bowl for five minutes, rinse it and pat the jewelry dry.
