Home remedies to get rid of cockroaches include spreading baking soda, borax or diatomaceous earth in the affected areas of the home. Experts recommend mixing Borax and baking soda with sugar or other ingredients, such as peanut butter, to help ensure the insects consume the powder. Traps made from bread, old coffee cans and beer also help eliminate cockroaches. In addition to spreading the desired product, clean the home thoroughly, and remove water sources to completely eliminate the insects.
Mix borax, a laundry additive, with a combination of peanut butter, shortening, flour and water, and roll the mixture into balls. Place the balls in locations of frequent cockroach activity. Replace the bait as needed.
To make a trap, soak a piece of bread in beer, and place the bread in the bottom of an empty coffee can. Leave the lid off the coffee can, and place the trap in the desired area. Replace the bread as needed.
To use baking soda to get rid of cockroaches, mix the baking soda with an equal amount of sugar, and spread the mixture in cabinets and other areas of the home. When using diatomaceous earth, spread the diatomaceous earth in the affected areas of the home, and eliminate all water sources for optimal results. Give the product up to two weeks to work.
