As of 2015, the Husqvarna 240e, Stihl MS 210 C-BE and Echo CS-370 chainsaws, which are all between 35 and 38cc, all are rated highly by Popular Mechanics magazine. Larger, more powerful chainsaws such as the Echo CS-600P and the Stihl MS 290 Farm Boss rate highly as well.
In the Popular Mechanics review, the Husqvarna 240e and Stihl MS 210 C-BE both received five star ratings, while the Echo CS-370 received 4.5 stars. The magazine also reviewed the Solo 636, which was the fastest cutting chainsaw tested and received a four star rating. The only minor negative the magazine noted about the Husqvarna chainsaw, which normally retails for around $220, was that it requires a screwdriver to remove the cap for the air filter and spark plug. In its review of the Stihl chainsaw, the only negative was its price, as at around $290, it is slightly more expensive than some of the other models.
The Echo CS-600P features a 59.8cc, four horsepower engine compared to the slightly smaller, 56.5cc, 3.8 horsepower engine on the Stihl MS 290 Farm Boss, which is the company's best-selling model of chainsaw.
Chainsaws from brands such as Solo, Jonsered and Craftsman also rate highly among some experts.
