A high-efficiency washer is a washer that takes less energy to operate than a traditional washer. The increased efficiency is a result of using less energy to run the washer and heat the water.
High-efficiency washers use less water than traditional washers, cutting down on utility costs. This causes more water to spin out of the clothes, reducing ringing time. A decrease in the water level also causes high-efficiency washers to make more suds than traditional washers, requiring the use of special high-efficiency detergents. Using a high-efficiency washer without using the right detergent can flood the washer. High-efficiency detergents are designated with an HE label.
