A HEPA, or high-efficiency particulate air-filter, can reduce symptoms of dust mite allergies because the filter works by forcing air through a fine mesh material, subsequently trapping allergens such as pet dander, pollen and dust mites. HEPA filters are found in vacuum cleaners and air purifiers.
Dust mites and their waste products often become airborne, and because they are so light, they can remain in the air indefinitely. An air purifiers circulates air through a filtration system which captures the allergens, including dust mites, and holds them in the filter. HEPA filters capture 99.9 percent of all particles that pass through them. HEPA-equipped vacuums release less dust mites and dirt back into the room as the vacuum is used.
