Typically, the seat of a counter stool is between 24 and 26 inches from the surface of the floor. If the stool has a back, it increases the overall height of the stool by up to 2 feet.
Counter stools are designed for use at a table or counter with a height of 36 to 39 inches. There should be 8 to 12 inches of space between the seat of the stool and the bottom of the table or the overhang of the counter.
Counter stools are shorter than bar-height stools, which are 28 to 32 inches high, and chair-height stools, which are about 18 inches high.
