Trane heat pumps are among the highest-quality heat pumps listed at heating review website Furnace Compare, taking three of the top 10 spots in the site's 2014 review of best heat pumps. Amana and Coleman heat pumps also appear in Furnace Compare's top 10 ranking,
The Trane XB14, XL20i and XR15 take the first, third and fifth spots on the list of top 10 heat pumps of 2014. These three heat pumps all have Trane's Climatuff compressor system and Spine Fin aluminium coil system in common, with the XL20i using two Climatuff compressors to provide a backup system for hot days. The XB14, XL20i and XR15 all qualify for Energy Star certification when installed in a compatible configuration, and all feature galvanized steel exteriors for maximum protection against the elements.
The Coleman Echelon heat pump is a high-quality unit that takes second in the rankings. The Echelon has higher efficiency ratings than all of the Trane heat pumps except the XL20i but reliability issues keep it from being the top choice.
Amana has two models in the top 10, with the ASZ13 and ASZ16 ranked at the sixth and eighth spots. While Amana heat pumps have a high incidence of maintenance issues according to the owners of these heat pumps, they are also backed by a lifetime compressor warranty. In addition, the ASZ13 is considerably cheaper than any of the Trane or Coleman heat pumps on the list.
