As of 2015, Gurney's Seed and Nursery Company sells heirloom seeds of many types of fruits and vegetables. Offerings from the company include several varieties of heirloom watermelon, tomato, carrot, squash and pumpkin seeds.
Charles W. Gurney founded Hesperian Nurseries in 1866. Gurney, his seven sons and his nephew changed the company name to Gurney’s Seed and Nursery Company in 1906, and the first seed catalog was published in 1910. After Gurney's death in 1913, the business passed first to his son Deloss Butler Gurney and subsequently to Deloss's son, John Chandler Gurney, upon his death in 1943. John Gurney expanded the company to include a radio station, a grocery store and several other enterprises.
