Shrubs, ivy, ferns, pines, and Solanum plants are all good year-round outdoor hanging plants. These plants can survive the harsh winter conditions and bloom all year round with little maintenance.
Shrubs such as evergreens grow at a slow pace and grow through all seasons in the shade or sunlight. Ivy, such as spider plants, grow in extremely cold weather and will spread around the container in which they are planted. Christmas ferns and mountain pines are ideal for cold weather. Solanum plants survive well in winter and keep their color throughout all seasons. An alternative to a single year-round plant is layering mixed floral bulbs and plants in one hanging plant container for colorful blooms all year.
