Common products to clean stove top grates include commercial oven cleaners, ammonia, baking soda and water pastes and degreasers. Stove top grates can also be soaked in a bucket of warm water and dish soap.
When using commercial oven cleaners and degreasers to clean stove top grates, it may be necessary to place the grates on newspaper, spray on the cleaner and allow the commercial sprays or degreaser to settle for a few hours or overnight to loosen caked-on food particles and grease. Natural products, such as a mixture of baking soda and water, create a paste that can be applied to the grates. The paste should dry for a few hours and can be rinsed with warm water. Stove top grates can also be placed in a Ziploc bag with 1/4 cup of ammonia to allow the fumes to remove stains and caked-on grease.
