Some good months for Pistachio tree sales are in February and March of each year. Pistachio trees cost around $34.95, as of 2015, and the trees start producing pistachios in their fourth or fifth year. They produce pistachios for long periods of time.
The pistachio tree is a native desert plant. The trees tend to thrive in areas with long, hot, dry summers and extremely cold winters. Most pistachio production areas in the United States are in the San Joaquin Valley in California. Small areas in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas also grow pistachios. Pistachio trees should not be planted in areas where cotton was previously produced.
