Some of the good latch door locks include the cam lock, Norfolk latch, Suffolk latch, crossbar and cabin hook. Others include the latchbolt, rotary latch and slam latch.
The cam lock consists of a cam and a base where a tool rotates a cam. The Norfolk latch and the Suffolk latch hold doors closed using a thumb-actuated lever. A crossbar uses a plank or a beam that permits a door to open inward rather than outward. The cabin hook holds a door open and is used to prevent a door from banging and swinging. The latch bolt is a type of spring latch that operates under the lockset’s mechanism to allow opening of the door. The slam latch uses a spring that is activated when the door slams or shuts.
