As of 2015, some good brush mowers are the Poulan Pro PR22WT Wheeled Trimmer, the DR Field and Brush Mower, and the Swisher WB11524BS Predator. As one of the top-rated brush mowers, the DR Field and Brush Mower has a 26-inch pivoting deck, an electric start engine and a four-speed transmission. The low deck and bumpy powered wheels improve traction for mowing slopes and hills. The 16.5 horsepower engine can handle brush that stands up to 8 feet tall.
Poulan Pro provides two well-reviewed brush mowers. The Poulan Pro PR22WT Wheeled Trimmer boasts a slightly smaller deck than the DR Field at 22 inches and has a recoil start. It's one of the more environmentally-friendly machines and is compliant with the requirements of the California Air Resources Board. The Poulan Pro PPWT60022 also has a 22-inch deck, but it boasts larger wheels and a four-cycle gas engine. The large wheels make it unsuitable for hilly terrain or slopes; it works best on flat ground.
Like the DR field mower, the Swisher WB11524BS Predator has pneumatic tires so that it more easily cuts and maneuvers on slopes and rough terrain. The Swisher is self-propelled and moves in reverse for good usability and handling. It's strong enough to cut through particularly thick undergrowth and small saplings.
