Most brass cleaners are basic products that are already at home, such as dish soap, microfiber cleaning cloths and vinegar. There are also unexpected items that help polish brass, including ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice.
A simple way to keep brass items polished is by cleaning them with a microfiber cloth. This is a type of lint-free cloth that doesn’t scratch or leave spots behind. For a more rigorous cleaning, use mild soap and warm water. Use the microfiber cloth with the soap and water instead of a sponge or any abrasive material. Tomato-based items also help remove stains from brass, including tomato sauce and ketchup. Put a small amount on the brass and let it sit for at least an hour. Remove the ketchup or tomato sauce with warm, soapy water.
