When a room is not connected to a central heating source or the heating source is not working, a space heater is usually used. These small electrical heaters are appropriate for heating a small area.
Space heaters plug into a standard power outlet. They should not be used with an extension cord or placed within 3 feet of drapes or furniture as there is a fire hazard. They come in various sizes and levels of power output. The most common design blows air into the room over heated coils. Though they all require electricity to operate, some are filled with oil to provide continued heating after they are turned off.
