GE microwaves are generally not energy efficient, based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star ratings. Currently, there are no Energy Star labels for any ovens, ranges or microwave ovens.
Most microwaves run efficiently and save energy. Even microwaves that run on a higher wattage are energy efficient because they require less cooking time. Based on a report by the Consumer Guide to Home Energy Savings, microwaves cost approximately 3 cents to run on high for 15 minutes. Gas and electric ovens, toaster ovens and electric frying pans all cost 7 cents or more because they require longer cooking times.
