Small flying bugs with a fuzzy appearance are called drain flies or moth flies. These flies are most often found near the sink and tub, which is how they get their name.
Drain flies are small, no more than 1/5 inch long. They are dark gray to black, with roof-like wings that have markings similar to moths. Drain flies only have the capacity to fly a few feet at one time and are seen most often in the evenings. The adult flies live approximately four days without food but survive up to three weeks when they have access to liquid carbohydrates or nectar. While they do not bite, they become a nuisance in the home, flying around the bathroom or kitchen sink, bathtub and light fixtures.
